I had a horrible thing happen to me today…I sinned. I allowed the enemy of my soul to plant doubt and fear in my heart. Where God had given blessings, Satan planted lies and deception in my heart…and I let him! That’s the sad part…I let him! And right away, sin started taking its toll on my life.
First thing that happened was that I started doubting God’s Word and His promises to me. I started thinking that maybe what God had said was true; maybe it wasn’t so true after all. And I entertained those doubts and fears for a while. In fact, I held on to them all night long. Do you know what happened? First, I skipped my prayer time last night because I was “too tired”. You know what…sin will do that! Scripture tells us that sin separates us from God. It will keep us from going to the very One who can fix our problem. And instead, we go on entertaining those thoughts that Satan has planted in our hearts…his lies…his deception. Then do you know what happened next? I started noticing my attitude toward people I care about was not as loving as it usually is. My attitude started getting cold and uncaring. That’s when I knew I had a big problem!
Guess what I did? You’re right…I repented…immediately! I realized what was going on...I knew who was to blame...and I even knew exactly when it happened. I took it straight to the only One Who has the power to clean up my heart and make it right again…I repented. Isaiah 1:18 says:
“Come now, and let us reason together,”
Says the LORD,
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
They shall be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They shall be as wool"
We need to learn the value of repentance. When we receive forgiveness from the Lord, He makes our hearts white as snow. He cleans it up, lifts the heaviness and burdens from us and gives us joy in our hearts again. But it’s up to us to keep it that way. We need to learn to do what I call “keeping a short account with God”. When we start to feel the symptoms and the burden of sin in our hearts, we should learn to take it to the Lord right away and get rid of that dirty sin stain. Whatever the sin is…it doesn’t matter. Whether it’s an evil thought, a doubt, a fear…whatever thoughts we allow to take root in our hearts, God can dig that ugly thing up and get rid of it in an instant. But we need to take it to Him. If we are willing, 1 John 1:9 promises us, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” He really means that. We don’t have to carry that burden, that hurt, that heaviness, that sin in our heart for one more minute. We can take to Him, confess our doubt, our fear, our unforgiveness…whatever it is that is tearing our hearts apart and we can tell our Father how much we hate that ugly thing in us and ask Him to forgive us and clean our hearts all over again and give us the power to overcome it. And you know what? He will…and then we will be free. That is the path to victory!
Let's pray: Father...I come to You in the Powerful and the Mighty Name of Jesus. I confess to You Father that I have sinned. I have been disobedient to You and I am at fault, no one else Father. And I am truly sorry for that sin. I want to lay it down and ask Your forgiveness and for Your power to overcome that sin. I know You can help me and I praise you for cleansing me and giving me power to overcome...in the Name of Jesus I pray...Amen
