The Parables of the Doors

I remember a time many years ago when I had no idea which way to turn or what to do. Maybe you have been there too. It seemed as though I was wandering around in the dark and no matter what I tried or which way I turned, everything was closed to me. Then, the Holy Spirit gave me a "Parable" so to speak, or a picture story in my own spirit, and this is that parable.

He showed me a large room and all around the room were doors, much like the picture below...but the room was very dark and I couldn't see anything and had no direction. I felt very lost and hopeless in that room. Then I would see a door over on the other side of the room begin to open, and I would run to that door, but just as I was about to run out the door, it would slam shut in my face! That would bring much frustration, confusion discouragement, and I would sit down and cry and cry not knowing what to do. You know that the devil is able to open and close doors too, but his doors lead to nowhere.
What the Lord taught me through this parable is that when I feel that I am in the dark and I don't know what to do, that is the time when I should just sit still in that dark place and pray and seek the Lord and read His Word and wait for His direction. No matter how many doors appear to be opening, just keep praying and waiting...because when God opens a door, He opens it completely and then you hear the still small voice of the Holy Spirit saying, "This is the way, walk in it" and you know in the depths of your heart that He is leading you in His path. His open doors will never slam in your face and they will bring comfort and peace.
In the many years since the Lord showed me this parable, I have often found myself in that dark room not knowing what to do. And I have remembered that what I needed to do was to sit still in that place and seek the Lord with all my heart...and in His time, He would open the door of His choice, and I would know in my heart that it was the Holy Spirit who was leading me. It's never easy to wait on the Lord...but His plan and His time is alway the best! I hope this story has blessed and encouraged you too.
