Think about it...of all the hundreds of thousands of gods and idols that people all over the world worship...our God is the ONLY God Who is alive and loves His people. All the other gods are dead gods and many are gods that are made by human hands out of wood or stone or metal...they are NOT alive...they do NOT care for their followers. Those people are putting their trust in something that cannot help them...can do nothing for them. But our God is alive...and our God loves us so much that He sent His very own Son to die as payment for our sins so that we can have the privilege of living with Him forever!
I hope you will join me here often as I share how the Word of God is affecting our everyday lives and how we can live in obedience to Him. So, be sure to share this blog with your friends! Preaching the Gospel
Most anybody can preach in the cities, the open stadiums, the comfortable churches...but Jesus didn't do that. He went to places like Samaria, the tax collector's house, the graveyards, to those demon possessed, to the harlots, to funeral processions, even to closed tombs. Jesus went where people were hurting, dying...already dead. In other words, Jesus went where others would not even think of going.
Today you see evangelist going from church to church, but Jesus said "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance." (Mark 2:17)
Letting Go of the Past
One of the most powerful lessons the Apostle Paul learned was to let go of the past and move forward. To the Church at Philippi he wrote, "Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 3:13-14)
Many people spend their lives dwelling on the past. For some it was a good past and they base their self worth on some success they had when they were younger...in their prime. And for many, it was a disappointing past they spend their lives dwelling on, whether it was a past hurt, a painful childhood, a loved one they lost. Whatever it was, it robs them of living life today.
Some Thoughts on Ecclesiastes
I was reading this great book the other day, and I realized that the man who wrote it was wiser than any man who ever lived on the earth except for Jesus. King Solomon…the son of King David…is the Author of these amazing writings. And yet for all his wisdom…he still had a great deal of struggle and defeat in his life. And since this book is written toward the end of his life, he shares a lot of wisdom with us if we would only listen and learn from his teachings. If you have not read the book of Ecclesiastes lately, I would highly recommend that you do.
Imagine,
Solomon was given the choice of any one thing that he could possibly desire,
and he chose wisdom so that he could rule his kingdom well. He could have asked
for power or money or fame and fortune…but instead he asked God to make him
wise, and because of this choice, God gave him both wisdom and abundant wealth.
But still…by the time he came to the end of his life, he realized that it was
all vanity…nothing of value.
