Dispelling the Darkness

I want to talk to you about a power that has been given to every Born-Again Believer that could solve much of the trouble that we see in the world right now...if we were to learn how to use it. But the problem is that many Christians are not aware of this power, and many who are aware, they just don’t choose to use it.

Turn with me if you would to the Book of John, chapter 8 and verse 12 please. We see this: "Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

Jesus Prayed for You and Me

Jesus prayed a prayer as He was in the Garden on the night of His betrayal. I want to look at that prayer now. In John 17:20-23, Jesus had just prayed for the Disciples that He had spent the past 3 1/2 years training to carry on the work of the Gospel, and then He prayed for you and for me. This is what He said:

“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me."

Meeting People Where They Are

You can almost see Him in your minds eye, walking with his disciples following close behind on the long, dusty road that led from Jerusalem north, into Samaria. (John chapter 4) It was not a well-traveled road…most Jews of His day chose the other, longer route, the one that led around this city when they needed to get to parts north, to such territories as Galilee. They preferred the way that went over the Jordan River into Decapolis. After all, what “proper” Jew would dare travel through Samaria?

Jesus…Do You Know Him?

They looked like a ragtag bunch of misfits, walking along the dusty road that leads to Jerusalem. They didn’t appear to be anything speci...
