How to Survive Satan’s Attack on Your Life

Friends, I want to share something very important with you tonight—4 steps that you can take to survive Satan’s attacks on your life. And not just survive, but come out stronger in your faith and even better off than you were before.

We’re going to look at some insights from the story of Job, and I believe this will give you practical ways to stand strong when life seems to fall apart. So stay with me till the end of this video, because by the time we’re finished, you’ll see ways to apply Job’s wisdom in your own life.

But before we get into Job’s story, turn with me if you will to Luke 22:31-34:
"And the Lord said, 'Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.' But he said to Him, 'Lord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death.' Then He said, 'I tell you, the rooster shall not crow this day before you will deny three times that you know Me.'”

Friends, as we know from Peter’s story, Satan did tempt him to deny Christ. It was a chaotic, confusing, and terrifying time. And just like Peter, we must understand this truth: Satan, the enemy of our souls, wants to destroy our faith, our testimony, and our lives.

As I was reflecting on this scripture, I was reminded of an Old Testament story that many of us know well—the story of Job. So let’s take a look at what happened to Job. You can read the full story later, but for now, I just want to highlight a few key points.

Job 1:1-3:
The scripture tells us that Job was an upright man, blameless, God-fearing, and that he shunned evil. He was also a family man with seven sons and three daughters. And he was very wealthy, described as “the greatest of all the people of the East”. But one day, everything changed for Job. The scripture tells us that Satan appeared before God and asked for permission to test Job.

Let’s read Job 1:6-12 together:
“Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?”

So Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”

Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?”

So Satan answered the Lord and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing? Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face!”

And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person. So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.” (Job 1:6-12)

And Friends, after this dialogue, Job’s life immediately began to fall apart. In one day, he lost his home, his livestock, all 10 of his children, and eventually his health. The Bible tells us in Job 2:7-8 that Job was afflicted with painful sores.

And yet, in the midst of all this tragedy, God declared in Job 1:22:
"In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong."

Friends, I want to be honest with you…there will come a time in your life when your faith will be tested. Maybe more than once. You might lose everything. Friends, family, your job…you could lose everything and sometimes it may feel like you’re completely alone.

But the question I want to ask you today is this…when that time comes, what will your testimony be? How will you respond when everything you’ve worked your whole life for is taken away? Will you be like Job? Will you have the faith you need to endure?

Tonight, I want to share with you 4 steps that Job took, that if you will apply them to your circumstances, they can also help you to survive your own times of testing:

Step 1: Remember God’s past faithfulness and keep trusting Him.
Job said in Job 13:15: "Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him." Job had determined in his own heart to trust God no matter what may happen in this life. He had experienced God’s faithfulness in the past, and he refused to let his circumstances shake his trust in the Almighty.

Step 2: Remember who God is.
In Job 38-39, God reminded Job of His majesty and His power. Friends, your God is the Creator of the Universe. He flung the stars into the sky, He holds the planets in place, and He holds your very breath in His hand. When trials come, meditate on God’s greatness and worship Him, even if you don’t understand why horrible things are happening at that time. I have heard some of the most incredible stories of victory that God has worked into people’s lives after they have experienced a time of loss and tragedy.

Step 3: Humble yourself before the Lord.
Job humbly said in Job 40:4-5:
"Behold, I am vile; What shall I answer You? I lay my hand over my mouth. Once I have spoken, but I will not answer; Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further." Job recognized that regardless of the circumstances that had come into his life, he knew that he was totally dependent on God, and he surrendered fully to His keeping. Friends, when our lives are turned upside-down, we too, must humble ourselves under God’s mighty hand and trust completely in His sovereignty over our lives.

Step 4: Repent of your lack of faith.
Job declared in Job 42:6:
"Therefore I abhor myself, And repent in dust and ashes."

We must remember that God owns our lives and He allows trials in order to help shape us into the image of His Son, Jesus Christ. Through hardships, He refines our character and He prepares us for the greater blessings and opportunities that He desires to bring into our lives.

And just as God restored Job twice as much as he had before, He will also restore you and bring you through stronger than ever. As Job said in Job 23:10: "But He knows the way that I take; When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold." God is the One Who knows the end from the beginning and He will only allow into your life those things that are necessary to make you more into the image of His dear Son, and to fulfill the purpose that He has for your life.

Friends, let me encourage you today: God is not against you—He is for you. If you’re in the middle of a trial right now, just remember, He has not forsaken you. He hears your cries and is busy at work preparing to bring you through this trial stronger than ever.

No matter how difficult things may seem, trust Him, remember who He is, humble yourself, and repent of any doubt. He will refine you like gold in the fire and restore you abundantly.

Let’s pray together:
Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your Word and for the example of Job. Lord, I lift up everyone watching this video right now, and I ask that You would strengthen their faith in the midst of their trials. Help us to trust You no matter what circumstances may come into our lives, help us to remember Your greatness and also to humble ourselves before You. Give us hearts to repent of our doubts in Your faithfulness. Father, bring us through our times of testing refined like gold, stronger, wiser, and closer to You. Restore to us what the enemy has tried to steal, and let Your blessings overflow in our lives. We love you and we praise you Lord…In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Friends, remember, the trials you face today are preparing you for the glory that’s waiting for you tomorrow. Hold on to your faith, stay faithful to God’s Word, and keep trusting Him to do amazing things in Your life. God bless you!
